Bugs in the computer

DON’T TAKE THE BAIT!

Fake “urgent account” emails are catching people out across Zimbabwe and the world.

You’ve probably seen messages like:

❌ “Your email account expires in 24 hours”
❌ “Someone logged into your Facebook account”
❌ “Immediate action required”

These emails are designed to create PANIC so you click before you think.

Once clicked, the link usually opens a fake login page that looks almost identical to regular sites like Facebook, Outlook, Google, or your email provider. The moment you type in your password, you hand your account directly to cybercriminals.

⚠️ RED FLAGS TO WATCH FOR:
• Generic greetings like “Dear Customer”
• Strange sender addresses
• Poor spelling or awkward wording
• Threats or urgent deadlines
• Suspicious links that do not match the real website

THE GOLDEN RULE:

NEVER log in through a link sent in an unsolicited email.

Instead:

  1. Close the email
  2. Open your browser manually
  3. Type the official website yourself
  4. Log in normally
  5. Check notifications/security alerts inside the platform

If there’s a genuine issue, you’ll usually see it there too.

🔐 EXTRA PROTECTION:

Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) wherever possible. Even if someone steals your password, 2FA can stop them from accessing your account.

Bottom line:

Cybercriminals feed on urgency.

Stay calm, stay sceptical, and ALWAYS verify directly through the official website.
